Next week—November 8–14—is Orangutan Caring Week, which means it's time for our second annual holiday/greeting card fundraiser in support of orangutans!
This year's set of cards highlights some very special orangutans, with each set featuring four different cards, all drawn by me and Nita.
As you may know, we were initially inspired to raise funds in support of orangutans after meeting Karin Konoval at X-Fest 2019. Karin's performance in season 11 of The X-Files inspired a t-shirt design, and her dedication to helping orangutans inspired us to donate proceeds to Orangutan Outreach. Karin began advocating for orangutans after spending time with them while working on the most recent Planet of the Apes trilogy.
Orangutan Outreach works to ensure that displaced and orphaned orangutans are protected and, when possible, returned to their native forests. The organizations supported by Orangutan Outreach teach young orangutans the skills they need to survive in the wild and socialize older orangutans who've lived in captivity. Orangutans who are unable to live independently in the wild remain under the protection of organizations dedicated to their survival.
Thanks to the generous support of X-Files fans, our t-shirt fundraisers brought in enough money to adopt four orangutans in 2019 and TEN orangutans in 2020! Last year's holiday/greeting card sale was a hit, so we're doing a whole new batch of cards this year! Given, well, everything, this year's card sale will be a bit more low-key, with just one set of cards available.
The orangutans featured on this year's cards were all adopted through our t-shirt fundraisers: Gunung, from last year's "class," and from this year's class, JoJo, Monita, and Jelapat.
Each set of four cards will be $12.50, with $10 going to Orangutan Outreach! Cards will be available to order through November 14. Purchase here!
