Well, shiiiiiiit. haha. Still basically on lockdown over here. Businesses are opening up, but we're still choosing to limit our interactions. I do have to go to work again for 7 days before official summer break, so that should be a bit weird.
I haven't been drawing as much these past two weeks. I posted over on Instagram my new hand embroidery projects. It's been fun trying something new and I really love it. I've been making a lot of "Mulder it's me" sweaters for friends. Once I get a bit more practice under my belt, and figure out how to buy one item at a time without ridiculous shipping costs, I'll open up commissions. I like the idea of being able to make pretty much whatever people want. Printing doesn't really make sense for just one or a few shirts, but custom embroidery is definitely possible.
Continuing with going off-prompt, this week's drawing is of Gillian in the Pink Suit. For the whole list of prompts, click here. When I tell you the whole fandom lost their s*** when these pics dropped... This happened in January and we all really thought 2020 would be amazing. It started off so strong. lol
I tried to remember to take more progress screenshots this time... I tried. The sketch for this one felt like it took forever because there were lots of clothing and hand details. The proportions felts pretty good. It's amazing how much it transforms just from adding eyes.
After the eyes came mouth and face shading. This is the best nose yet.
After the majority of the face was done, I moved onto the clothes. I love drawing clothes and I'm guessing it's because they're more forgiving than faces. I drew the rest of the shirt and hand details and all of the hair this morning and totally forgot to take screenshots. I was on a roll.
Sooooooo, here's the final product! With both eyebrows! I thought I was finished and then realized I forgot to detail an eyebrow. *facepalm* I felt a bit rushed to complete it because I know I won't have as much time to draw the next two weeks and I don't want to get behind. There are many small details that I would fix/add/change. Overall, though, I'm happy with it. The necklace is my favorite part. :)
And the original:
The next prompt is BLANCHE!! This is super appropriate because this week Gillian's performance in A Streetcar Named Desire is playing for free on You Tube (here). It is arguably her best performance EVER and it's very emotional to watch. I'm very excited about this one. I think capturing her expression will be a challenge. EEP!
