52 Week Drawing Project- Weeks 21-22

I shouldn't even have to say this by now- I didn't get as much drawing done as I would have liked, so there's only one drawing to share.

This week, I continued with color and struggled, again. I am much happier with how this drawing turned out, but I still have a long way to go. This week's prompt is Color close up of face with silly expression (IG can I be a dog again?). Gillian did an Instagram live Q&A and her assistant put the dog filter on for her. Cute as hell. (For background on this project, click here)

I used the drawing assist grid again this time and I have to say, it does make it much easier to get the proportions of her features correct from the get go. I got some new brush sets (Jing sets) from an ad on Instagram and I love them! The soft brushes blend so much easier than the airbrushes. Life. Changing.

Even using the drawing assist grid, her eyes came out huge. lol But this time, I was smart about it and started using different layers for each element of the drawing. This made it so much easier to make the eyes smaller without messing up the color of her face. Progress! It's something I should have been doing from the start, but I like to learn things the hard way.

The *great* Amy Jo suggested that I add some reflection light in her eyes, even though the original picture doesn't have any because it makes the eyes pop. This is why I keep her around, y'all. ;) I didn't go super detailed with the hair and all, mostly because I didn't have time, but also because I am trying to not stray into photorealism right now.

Also, I drew this picture a while back just messing around for practice.

LOOK AT THIS GLOW UP. That is some serious improvement and I'm proud.

As a bonus, I'm going to share the sketch of Jean and Jakob (If you haven't already, go watch Sex Education on Netflix because it's AMAZE). I recently found a great tutorial about skin color, so I deleted the color that I had already started and will start again from scratch.

Sooooo next week's prompt is Color of Head and Shoulders. The hard part will be choosing a picture! There are a million classics and also a ton of new content. Our girl was so busy in January.
